Let’s Be Active! (August 31, 2017)

Let’s Be Active

Promoting increased involvement within one’s family or community.

I have recently decided that one of my personal goals is to become active in my community in a way that requires more personal accountability.  Becoming active in one’s community is a great way to foster one’s connectedness to the world around oneself.  There are just as many ways to become active as there are people in your community.  How one determines to become active in one’s community centers upon one’s relationships connecting them to the community, as well as their interests.

My initial personal goal, upon moving to a new area, was to establish relationships while becoming active in ways that had goals already predetermined by others.  In the process of settling into the new area, I discovered an opportunity to become more active in alignment with a passionate interest of mine.  The sharing of my idea with others has been met with great enthusiasm due to the potential to foster improvement of a recognized need.  Although I am still actively working on predetermined goals with others, I have already experienced a deeper community connectedness with my added venture being added to the mix.

If you are not already trying to be active in your community, I would challenge you to ask yourself what is holding you back?   Fostering the development of healthy relationships, while seeking to enrich one’s experience with others as a community, are both beneficial health promotional efforts in the pursuit of whole person wellness.  I have learned that to thrive in my own community, I must challenge myself not to remain comfortable.  Have you considered the potential benefits for you, in challenging yourself to always be learning while in the service of others and to force yourself to be uncomfortable?

Let’s Think Deeply! (August 31, 2017)

Let’s Think Deeply

Promoting the exchange of inspiring, motivating, & empowering ideas.

Sometimes we need to reflect.  It is important to take time to reflect on what is happening in our lives, around us, & to those that we know.  More importantly, we need to take time to reflect what is going on with ourselves & how we are handling all that affects us.  Are we happy with what is going on around us & how do we allow it to influence our approach to life?  Are we satisfied with what we are hoping to accomplish & how do we ensure that we stay focused on our goals?  Do we have too much “noise” in our lives that distract us from our personal goals?  One of the hardest things to achieve is true balance in one’s life.  Having goals for exercise, nutrition, relationships, & community involvement are a great way for us to establish a baseline, monitor our progress, evaluate how we should work harder, & to determine whether we are nearing our goals.

Maintaining a whole person wellness approach means that all of the aspects of our lives are considered when focusing on our health promotion efforts.  This broad focus better allows for our success at achieving optimal health.  When we consider how our decisions influence our body, mind, & spirit connection, we are able to decide how to improve our life balance.  What are you doing in your life to promote peacefulness or rest from the “noise?”  What are you doing to advocate for your own body, mind, & spiritual connectedness with the world around you?  Do you feel connected?  Are you putting in enough effort to experience the connectedness that you are hoping for?  What can you change in your life right now to better enhance your personal connectedness of your own body, mind, & spirit with the world that you are experiencing?

We have the strength to identify & choose in what ways that we connect ourselves to the world.  If you haven’t taken the time to identify how you want to be connected, how are going to be effective in choosing to make the connections that you hope to experience?  F. Scott Fitsgerald said, “For what it’s worth: it is never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you are proud of, & if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over.”

Let’s Share Healthy Inspiration!

Let’s Share Healthy Inspiration!

Wellness encompasses health, which is a bodily state.  There are times in all of our lives when we need to consider more than just the bodily state of health that contributes to our state of wellness.  True wellness demands that we, as individuals, place foci on our physical, mental, nutritional, social, & spiritual needs.  Therefore, to consider all of the elements of our wellness, is to provide an overall focus on our well-being.

This should be expected to be challenging, because our needs are constantly changing.  Our wellness can also be challenged by the influence of those needs on each other.  For example, one’s physical needs may suddenly require more attention or the stress from one’s relationships may overshadow everything else.  When one is feeling overwhelmed, or otherwise identifies their belief in lacking a state of wellness, it can be difficult to decide where to place one’s focus.

Inclusion of sufficient physical activity, proper nutrition, and healthy relationship boundaries can be a good foundation for wellness.  When these needs are being met, one may additionally examine one’s social and spiritual needs.  Without these basic needs being met, it may not be possible for social and spiritual needs to be additionally considered.  However, for others, they may require spiritual and/or social needs being met in order to  meet their physical, mental, and nutritional needs.

What is most important is what you, as an individual, need to advocate for your complete state of wellness.  A sole or primary focus on any one of the wellness elements can complete with the efforts needed to strive for a state of health for another element and for whole person wellness.  One should be careful that one’s efforts do not result in supporting only a state of health, rather than supporting wellness.

When considering health promotional ideas, take into consideration how to work toward promoting a state of health for each of the elements required for your state of wellness!
